Samsung's new A-series and M-series Galaxy smartphones have received good response from customers and those reviewing the phone. Given the price of Galaxy A70 , Galaxy A50  and Galaxy M30 , it may be advisable to take these smartphones. Samsung has recently launched a new Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone in the price segment of less than Rs 20,000.

This is by far the most expensive phone in the Galaxy M-series. Apart from Samsung's flagship S10 series model, you will also get a hole-punch display in the Samsung Galaxy M40 launched in the price segment below Rs 20,000. This is seen for the first time when Samsung has not replaced the earpiece in any of its smartphones, this handset produces audio vibration when a voice call is received. Other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone are also strong. Is the Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone the best smartphone in the price segment under Rs 20,000? Let's know.

Samsung Galaxy M40 : Design

Samsung Galaxy M40 Design
Samsung Galaxy M40 Design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy M40 is no different from that of other M-series smartphones. Samsung Galaxy M40 has a glossy plastic frame and rear panel. Fingerprints fall easily, but the amazing thing is that it does not slip even when using the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone with one hand.

With daily use, Samsung Galaxy M40 small scratch marks were found on the rear panel made of plastic. Keep the Samsung Galaxy M40 in the case to protect it from scars etc. Explain that the case is not available with the retail box.

The Samsung Galaxy M40 has a 6.3-inch full-HD + Infinity O (1080x2340 pixels) display. Samsung Galaxy M40 has Corning Gorilla Glass protection to avoid scratches. However, it is a PLS TFT LCD panel instead of the Super AMOLED panel used in the Galaxy M30. The display is bright, the colors look vibrant and the viewing angles are also good.

The bezel around the display and the border at the bottom of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone is thin. There is a hybrid SIM tray on the left side of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone, in which the user can install two nano-SIMs or a single SIM and a microSD card (up to 512 GB) if desired. You cannot use all three cards at the same time, like you can in the Galaxy M30. While placing the nano-sim in the Samsung Galaxy M40 first slot was a bit tricky as the slot seems a bit small. But we had no problem with the second slot.

Apart from the earpiece, the Samsung Galaxy M40 also lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company has given a Type-C headset in the  Samsung Galaxy M40 retail box, as well as a 3.5 mm adapter from the Type-C, with the help of which you can use the existing headphones. Triple camera module with LED flash is provided on the left side of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone.

The LED flash is placed just below the camera module in Samsung Galaxy M40. For security, fingerprint sensor has been given on the back panel of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone. The sensor is placed slightly above our preference, it identifies the finger correctly. Samsung Galaxy M40 also has Face Unlock feature but it is not fast, it takes few seconds in low-light.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy M40 is a comfortable phone. We particularly liked Samsung Galaxy M40 slim and compact body and weighs just 168 grams. We got a midnight blue variant of the Galaxy M50 for review which quickly became dirty. We cannot say what the sewage blue variant of the Samsung Galaxy M40 will look like after use. In the retail box, you will find a SIM eject tool, 15 watt adapter, Type-C cable and Type-C headset.

Samsung Galaxy M40 : specification and software

Samsung Galaxy M40 Specification
Samsung Galaxy M40 Specification

The core specifications of the Samsung Galaxy M40 are similar to the Galaxy A70. On the Samsung Galaxy M40 you will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor which we first saw in Redmi Note 7 Pro. Only one variant of the Samsung Galaxy M40 has been made available in India right now, Samsung Galaxy M40 has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

Talking about other specifications, the  Samsung Galaxy M40 phone includes 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 AC, NFC, FM radio, Bluetooth version 5, and USB Type-C port. Talking about the Samsung Galaxy M40 sensor, the ambient light sensor, hall sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer sensor are part of this Samsung Galaxy M40 phone. The Samsung Galaxy M40 also has a "virtual light sensor" to adjust the brightness of the screen.

Talking about the software, the Samsung Galaxy M40 runs on OneUI 1.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. The Samsung Galaxy M40 has received an update recently, the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone has received the May 2019 Android Security patch with the update. The features given in the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone are the same as we have seen in other Samsung smartphones recently, so there is nothing new to say here.

You can customize the theme of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone, monitor your motion, configure motion and gesture shortcuts, enable Dolby Atmos for wire and wireless headphones, etc. with the help of Google digital wellbeing feature. Some features were not present such as Always-On Display because the Samsung Galaxy M40 does not have an AMOLED panel.

In Samsung Galaxy M40 OneUI will keep sending you unwanted notifications, but if you pay attention while setting up the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone and uncheck the related options then you can get a spam-free experience. Surprisingly, this Samsung Galaxy M40 phone, despite being NFC, does not support Samsung Pay or Samsung Pay Mini.

Samsung Galaxy M40 : performance, camera and battery life

The regular app and UI performance is very good. We used the Samsung Galaxy M40 everyday for several days and we don't have any major complaints from the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone. Apps open quickly, the interface is smooth and the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone is not very hot when running simple chat and social apps.

The game also went smooth but it gets a bit hot while playing heavy games like PUBG: Mobile on Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone. Even after playing for 10 minutes, the back of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone had become quite hot. While playing PUBG, the voice from the speaker on the bottom of the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone was getting very low but in other apps like YouTube, the voice was quite loud.

Music playback can be controlled with the in-line remote provided in the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone. Dolby Atmos works to increase the volume and improve the soundstage of Samsung Galaxy M40. Due to the thin border around the display, it looks quite good when watching videos or content on Samsung Galaxy M40. Most apps automatically mask the hole-punch area, but if the cutout doesn't bother you, you can force them to use full screen space.

Samsung's screen sound technology for voice calls works quite well. The first time you receive an incoming call, the visual overlay will show you where to place your ear on Samsung Galaxy M40. The Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone is Widevine L1 certified, which means that you can stream high-resolution movies on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

The Samsung Galaxy M40 has a triple rear camera setup. The primary sensor is 32 megapixels. It comes with AI Scene Optimizer and F / 1.7 lens. There is a 5 megapixel secondary camera on the back side of Samsung Galaxy M40. It is also a depth sensor. The third camera of Samsung Galaxy M40 is 8 megapixels, it comes with ultra wide angle lens. The Samsung Galaxy M40 phone does not have optical stabilization, autofocus also does not work fast. However, the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone is capable of recording 4K video and slow-motion video.

The main sensor of Samsung Galaxy M40 saves the 12 megapixel image by default and you can also manually change the resolution to 32 megapixels if you wish. Due to the low resolution, the picture from Samsung Galaxy M40 came a little better, so it is best to stick with this option. In good light, the main camera of Samsung Galaxy M40 captures the details well and the colors also look good.

Photos look good on the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone's display, but finer texture and sharpness are not as good when zooming the picture on Samsung Galaxy M40. The edges of the frame usually have a slight graininess and the highlights are also overexposed. The wide-angle camera of Samsung Galaxy M40 is fun to use because it allows you to capture interesting scenes, but the detail may be lacking and there is no autofocus in .Samsung Galaxy M40.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Macro shots also came better in daylight. The level of background blur was also good. Samsung's Seen Optimizer is also given in the Samsung Galaxy M40 camera app. Sharpness in the photos also came good. The Samsung Galaxy M40 phone also has a live focus or portrait mode, which works well for objects and pets. Improper edge detection for background blur was experienced while shooting indoor, outdoor and in sufficient light.

In low light, the autofocus of the Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone slows down a bit and there is also a lack of detail. The landscape also did not get any good pictures, the dark areas were a little grainy. The Samsung Galaxy M40 quality of pictures taken with a 16 megapixel selfie camera was also average. Portrait mode is also provided which works well.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Video quality is good in 4K and 1080p resolution, but the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone does not have stabilization. The super slow-motion video was also good but you can only do it in short burst. Battery life is one of the features of Samsung Galaxy M40. In our HD video loop test, the 3,500 mAh battery lasted for 15 hours and 30 minutes and on regular use, the battery lasted for a full day in a single charge.

The Samsung Galaxy M40 phone supported for about 20 hours even when using the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone heavy, such as camera and benchmark. The  Samsung Galaxy M40 offers a 15 watt fast charger and the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone supports Qualcomm Quick Charge technology. The Samsung Galaxy M40 phone was charged from 0 to 47 percent in 30 minutes and 86 percent in an hour.

Our decision about Samsung Galaxy M40

Samsung Galaxy M40 has many features which makes it an attractive option. The Samsung Galaxy M40 uses screen sound technology for voice calls, along with a hole-punch display. Apart from this, the storage of RAM and Samsung Galaxy M40 phone is also very good, not only that, the powerful processor is also given in the Samsung Galaxy M40 phone.

LCD screen gives good brightness and colors. Pictures taken with the Samsung Galaxy M40 are average and the autofocus speed could have been slightly better. Samsung Galaxy M40 Hybrid dual-SIM slots are also a topic to be thought of, and especially when the Galaxy A70, Galaxy A50, and Galaxy M30 have a separate microSD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Face unlock feature also does not work fast. On paper, the Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone looks better than the Galaxy A50. However, there may be some reasons for choosing the Galaxy A50 over the Samsung Galaxy M40. Of course you will get a slightly weaker processor and less storage in Samsung Galaxy M40, but you can get a bigger battery, AMOLED display and headphone jack.
